Harnessing the power of the sun

Sustainability
Here at Brugger, we have been using the Mondas data platform for several years to provide transparency regarding our energy flows.
Brugger Magnetsysteme featured on the Mondas platform
Our commitment to energy efficiency and sustainable business practices is being recognised: Mondas GmbH has featured Brugger Magnetsysteme as a use case on its website – providing a detailed insight into our energy monitoring and the success of our PV strategy.
Data-driven energy management with Mondas
For several years now, we at Brugger have been relying on the Mondas data platform to provide transparency into our energy flows. The platform records the electricity consumption of virtually all energy-intensive machinery, our three photovoltaic systems and other energy consumers within the company – thereby highlighting potential for optimisation.
The aim: to identify potential savings, make investment decisions based on real consumption data, and use the solar power we generate ourselves as efficiently as possible.
The figures speak for themselves
Our three PV systems, with a combined capacity of 120 kWp, generate around 100,000 kWh of electricity per year, covering approximately 30 per cent of our total electricity requirements. The self-consumption rate – that is, the proportion of solar power we use directly within the company – will already stand at 66% by 2025 .
A concrete example of data-driven decision-making: in 2023, we switched the lighting in our production and warehouse halls to LED technology. The Mondas data confirms the effect: in the relevant hall areas, electricity consumption fell by around 50 per cent – whilst at the same time improving the quality of the lighting.
Opportunities for the future
Continuous data collection is revealing further opportunities for improving energy efficiency:
- Load shifting: Machinery such as vibratory polishers, regranulators and injection moulding machines could be operated specifically at times when there is a particularly high supply of solar power.
- E-mobility: In future, charging processes for electric vehicles can be aligned with PV output.
- Battery storage: Based on load profiles, we can economically size a storage system.
- ERP integration: In the next step, we aim to derive machine running times from the electricity data and link them to our ERP system – this will allow energy costs to be allocated to individual products on a cost-of-use basis.
Data transparency as a recommendation
“I would recommend that every company establish data transparency,” says Managing Director Thomas Brugger. “We’ve had very positive experiences with it. With the Mondas data platform, we can now identify many further cost-saving measures, plan them optimally and also assess them from a cost-effectiveness perspective.”
